DIY Basket Makeover

I spent more time than I should probably admit looking all over the internet for cute baskets to match my new decor in the bathroom (post on that coming soon, I promise!) until I realized I had everything I needed already. I don't know why I didn't think of it sooner, but my existing baskets just needed a little face lift!

The first thing I did was put them in the sink and rinse off any dust, dirt, and hair product that might be stuck to them. I think some of the finish started to come off while I was rinsing them, so after they dried I sprayed them with a coat of spray shellac to be sure there wouldn't be any bleed through from the underlying finish

Once that was dry, spray away! The shellac and white spray paint was leftover from other projects so this is was a completely free DIY

The trick to spraying these evenly is to flip them upside down, and I walked around and checked them out from every angle to be sure I didn't miss any spots

It took 2 coats of spray paint to get the coverage needed, and 24 hours drying time

I also cleaned and reorganized the little linen closet in our master bedroom and I love how organized and clean it looks with the white storage baskets now. After cleaning everything out I also mysteriously have an entire shelf empty, not that I'm complaining!

Here's the before and after:

I'd love to hear in the comments, do you shop your own house before buying new things?

Thanks for visiting!

  1. Looks great! I always shop the house first, then it's the thrift store! I think I need to find some pretty baskets for my linen closet!
