DIY Macrame Plant Hanger

Hey everyone! Can you believe it's June already? Feels like this year is flying by! My succulents have all grown a lot so I recently snipped a few of them down and repotted them so they're looking cute again (not that they weren't cute before...but some of them were getting tall and leggy and needed some love!) Now they're looking all snazzy, it's time to give them some new homes! I picked up cute terra cotta pots last fall for them, but I've been wanted to try my hand at a DIY macrame plant hanger, so for this month's Sweet Moda Blog Project, I gave it a whirl!

To be totally honest, I thought these were going to be way harder than they actually were. So easy, in fact, that my Mom asked me to teach her so she can make some too!

I found this amazing tutorial from Taylor at J, Tay, and Little A and highly recommend starting here for your first project! She breaks down the steps and has great visuals and video links for the different knots

I was able to find macrame cord at my local Michael's, and conveniently had a 50% off a regular priced item coupon so the cord cost me about $5, plus I had some left over so I'll be trying some other projects with it too!

This project uses 2 types of knots, the square knot and the spiral square knot. There was definitely a little trial and error getting them right at first, but here's how mine came out:

And here's the whole thing! I love the contrast of the blue terra cotta pot against the macrame cord!

One thing that's cool about this particular project is that you can adjust the spacing of the knots that hold the pot to accommodate different size pots. You could also add beads to the ends of the cord to finish it off, I opted to just snip the excess for this one but will be trying that in the future!

Don't forget to check out Ashlee @ Sweet Southern Oaks and her gorgeous patriotic front porch flowers, and Jackie @ Jackie Can't Blog with her super pretty diy talavera painted pots

Have you tried any macrame projects yet? Leave a comment and tell me your favorites!

  1. Wow Liz! Your Macrame plant hanger turned out so good for your first macrame project! I really like the blue pot with the natural color cord. Please post more if you and your Mom make more hangers- I would love to see them!
